Lately I am getting a ton of questions regarding the tween age child and breakouts. I am going to outline three of my favorite products to help prevent and heal existing breakouts in a gentle and effective way. These Kerstin Florian products I recommend are my go-to because of the lightweight and therapeutic nature. Also safe and gentle for the littles!
1. Clarifying Moor Mud Masque-Sweating during play or sports, makeup for dance, not washing their hands and then touching the face are all culprits of spreading bacteria that can lead to congestion. I love this organic mud because it gently exfoliates and deep cleanses. And they will love to get permission to play with mud!
I suggest this product be used in the shower because it should remain moist. After only five minutes they can rinse if off and that’s it!
2.Rehydrating Neroli Water- One issue with breakouts I have seen time and time again is dehydration. The skin at this age may lack hydration (water not oil) and a simple way to help this is to use a floral water. This is a pure and natural product using the extract of the bitter orange blossom to hydrate and oxygenate the skin. The aroma is very uplifting and great for anxiety, perfect for the tween!
Neroli Water can be sprayed throughout the day, at night and whenever the skin needs to be freshened up. It is fun to put in the refrigerator and spray on a warm day, they will love it (and so will mom)!
3.Rehydrating Remineralizing Face Crème– I love this lightweight moisturizer for breakouts because of its protective and re-mineralizing properties. It is safe, recommended for sensitive skin and can be used at night if the tween is feeling a little oily during the day.
All of these products can be purchased on Kerstin Florain’s website, click here for link. Remember to keep it simple, at this age kids should not be focused on long regimens or worrying about their skin. Make it simple and fun and they will respond very positively! Please share this post with any mom you know who may be dealing with tween breakouts and let me know in the comments if there are any products you have used with great results!
When was the last time you cleaned your cosmetic brushes? If it took you a while to answer this question it is probably time. It is easy to ignore this process but it is really important to clean the brushes on a regular basis.
Not only are you removing the old make-up when you clean them, but also oils from your skin and bacteria build-up. If you are having problems with breakouts/acne and are not regularly washing your brushes this could be contributing to your problem.
How do you clean your brushes? There are great videos on you tube showing different techniques for this process. Personally I clean them by my sink, adding my sons natual body wash to my hand and swirl my brushes gently in the soap. I rinse them out in warm water, careful not to get the brush handle wet (you don’t want to loosen the glue holding the hairs together). I lay the brushes down on a towel and let them dry overnight. Again if you need to see an example check out you tube.
As far as how often to clean your brushes, I have heard anywhere from 1-3 weeks. If I clean mine every week I think I am doing pretty good. If you wear many different shades and pigments you might want to clean them more frequently.
Brushes are expensive and if you care for them properly they have an extremely long lifespan. Hope that helps, happy washing!
Many of you who regularly read my blog may wonder why I talk about nutrition and food so much on a skin care site. I am a true believer that what we do for our bodies internally directly impacts the quality of our skin. After all it is the largest organ and usually the first organ to sound off an alarm if there is something wrong. Having a foundation of healthy eating is always a good thing when skin is concerned, although not the only factor. We also need to care for our skin topically and help it look its best.
I have written many times about Sircuit Cosmeceuticals, this product line uses very concentrated pure ingredients that deliver results. It is a line that takes many of the cutting edge ingredients of today with some of the natural extracts and even food based ingredients that we all know taken internally can reap great results for our health.
I love the Clarity Broccoli Sulfur Mask because as a clay based mask it is not drying and even with my bone dry skin I can use it. This is an ideal product for acne prone, oily or congested skin types as it pulls at impurities in the skin and evens out oiliness. Because of the antibacterial effects it helps prevent the spread of the infection and is also healing to any possible inflammation. And with such amazing ingredients as Tea Tree, Broccoli, Spirulina and Zinc you will feel a difference after each use. Check out Sircuits Website to see a full list of ingredients and more company information.
After masking you can also warm up a big bowl of broccoli for dinner, can’t hurt right?
It may be surprising to some how common adult acne is. And if you have ever had problems with breaking out (even if it is just one pimple), you know how it can be completely stressful and upsetting. This is the first of more posts to come where I will be focusing on bringing product solutions and tips on how to handle the acne beast.
My first begins with a terrific cleanser, since that is usually where we start with any skin care regimen, the Clearing Skin Wash by Dermalogica.
* Key Ingredients listed from Dermalogica.Com:
* A synergistic anti-acne combination of Licorice, Milk Thistle, Lemon, Arnica, and Bergamont botanicals helps soothe while preventing future breakouts.
* Salicylic Acid stimulates natural exfoliation, helping to clear impacted follicles and minimize acne formation.
* Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Golden Seal and Matricaria help eliminate acne-causing bacteria.
This cleanser can be used sparingly as needed or more often depending on what your level of breakout is. Check out other mediBac Clearing Products as well for acne treatments that actually work.
Are you too “busy” to wash your face at the end of the day? Are you embarrassed to take off your makeup in front of your new boyfriend so you just sleep in it? Did you pass out after a night of dancing at the club and just forget to cleanse? Hey I don’t judge, I have had so many clients tell me they routinely skip their nighttime cleansing. However, this is one habit I highly suggest breaking. Here are my top three reasons why you should wash your face at the end of each day:
1. Get rid of dirt, debris and make-up.
This will help prevent clogging of the pores, sensitivity and dehydration. Even if you do not wear makeup, dirt and bacteria still need to be removed.
2. Treatment products can penetrate into the skin
Our skin cells are regenerating fastest while we sleep which is why we treat our skin with all of the highly potent ingredients at night. Cleanse the skin and then apply products to target which ever area of concern you may have.
3. Avoid breakouts
This is common sense people, but if you do not wash your skin, bacteria will spread and you can get acne breakouts. Period. Include washing, treating and moisturizing your face and neck into your routine just like brushing your teeth.
