One of the most common skin care concerns I have seen, no matter what the skin type, is dehydration. I have had clients with acne and oily skin have terrible dehydration. Typically skin that is dried out through the use of harsh ingredients is left even more vulnerable to further oil production and acne breakouts, due to the skin overcompensating. It’s a vicious cycle. It is with this skin type that you want to hydrate the skin with a water based ingredient versus an oil. Drier skin types that lack oil can also be lacking hydration in the skin. Almost everyone I see is dehydrated to some degree.
Nicely hydrated skin is always the goal, it’s what gives us the “dewy look” or that glowing skin we desire. Wrinkles look less defined and make-up glides on beautifully. One of my favorite ingredients to achieve hydration is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is found within the body, in the eyes and joints. One of my favorite qualities of it, is that it binds moisture from the air, up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. This makes it super powerful for delivering hydration without the heavier feel of an oil. Because of the plumping effects, this ingredient is even used as an injectable wrinkle reducer and for lip plumping in many plastic surgery/medical spa facilities.
One of my favorite topical serums containing this potent ingredient is Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum by Hylunia. It glides on the skin and is instantly penetrated, leaving the skin feeling light and smooth. It is oil-free making it a great moisturizer option for a acneic or oily skin type. Due to my dry skin, I use it underneath my moisturizer as a hydrating booster and it makes my skin feel silky and smooth. This product is for everyone, it is extremely gentle and even healing for more extreme skin conditions like Eczema and Psoriasis.
Check out the Hylunia website for more information, they offer free shipping with no minimum order!

Vitamin C Must Have Summer Product
I just got back from a mini-break over the weekend with my family in Carlsbad, what a great getaway for us Orange County peeps! We stayed at the Sheraton Carlsbad and La Costa Resort. Both properties are extremely family friendly and each have a spa (YES!).
I love the boutique style of The Ocean Pearl Spa at the Sheraton Carlsbad, it has a “beachy” feel with a great selection of products and treatments. Although I did not have time to receive a treatment I did sneak into the spa boutique while my boys were swimming at the pool where I discovered a new product line, Kimberly Parry Organics.
I bought the Hydrate- Neroli and Fig and I love it. It can be used as a moisturizer because of the hydrating properties, depending on your skin type. For my dry skin I like to apply after I cleanse my face by spritzing all over and then apply my facial oil or cream moisturizer. Fig is used to refine the skin, making it a great age management ingredient while the Neroli is nourishing and has an amazing aroma. I took this back to the pool with me and to spritz when I needed a little refresher. It can go over make-up so this is a great product for the beach bag!
Kimberly Parry Organics is USDA certified organic with pure and high quality ingredients including powerful essential oils and extracts. The type of products you can feel good about putting on your skin. They also have products for baby skin which I am excited to check out as well.
You can find Kimberly Parry Organics here or the Ocean Pearl Spa at the Sheraton Carlsbad.
Happy Friday! I want to share a recipe for a “Power Smoothie” I made this morning. I will be going out of town this weekend heading up to northern California for several days. While I know there will be plenty of Super Food heading north on the 5 highway (NOT), I thought I would get one last dose of highly powerful foods (hence the name) to load up on before we leave. I use Parsley which is super high is iron, extra protein, greens and chia seeds for added omegas.
I want to share this because even though it is very green is it also very tasty! If you feel like you could use a dose of goodness try this. If you don’t have all of the ingredients no worries, this is not easy to mess up. Just utilize what is in your fridge and don’t forget to give it to your whole family, this is a huge serving, the blender will be full. If you are not used to the green taste add a banana or sweetener like Stevia. You can store the leftovers in a glass mason jar if you have any at all. Here we go!
Add the following ingredients in your blender in the following order:
3-4 cups of water depending on how thick you like your smoothie (add an avocado for added creaminess)
2-3 Cups of greens (I use a mix of Spinach, Swiss Chard and Kale)
1 Cup Parsley
1 T Gogi Berries, Chia Seeds, Green powder of your choice
1 Scoop of Protein Powder (I use Sunwarrior Vanilla)
1 Cup Frozen Mango
1 Cup Frozen Pineapple
Blend, drink and feel really good.
I could write a small book of praise regarding my stay at Le Blanc Spa Resort and the total blissful experience my husband and I shared for our honeymoon. However, this is a blog so I will do my best to keep it short although I want to share every last heavenly detail. In the past I have traveled extensively for my jobs with different luxury brands and have experienced many four and five star hotel spas so I was really picky when it came to my personal holiday (this choice took me almost as much time as planning my wedding!).
We chose Le Blanc in Cancun because it is a short (and direct) flight from LA, it is all inclusive, has an amazing spa and they really cater to honeymooners/couples. I had high hopes because I had done my research but was still completely blown away!
If you enjoy going to the spa on your vacation (and who doesn’t?!) you will not be disappointed. We spent quite a bit of time there (that is according to my husband-I could’ve gone every day), each service we experienced was amazing. The staff was highly trained and the facility was spectacular. I loved the water wall, foot massage station and the co-ed relaxation room. The fitness area is state of the art and there is a classroom where you could take yoga, reformer pilates and even personal training sessions (ALL included). We did it all, even a sunset yoga class overlooking the water. At least starting the day in the gym made me feel better about lunch time Bloody Marys and 7 course gourmet dinners paired with wine.
We stayed for 2 weeks and I was STILL sad to leave-it really felt like home. If you are looking for a destination resort for a special occasion please check out Le Blanc Spa Resort. We would have spent quadruple what we spent for the value of our stay. It was truly an experience I will never forget and one I think of often.
I know I have spoken about this Evian Spray before and you know how crazy I am about toners. This was my “go-to” spray toner this summer during the ridiculous heat, which by the way isn’t going away. I really liked to drench my skin whenever possible, especially right after my shower and before I apply skin care treatment products. It also can be used right on top of your make-up. The packaging is recyclable and the sprayer does not harm the environment.
At Skin Store.com they have a variety of sizes so you can bring one with you on a plane and keep one in your purse. Is it Fall yet?!

After I graduated from college I took a month holiday to celebrate in Greece and Turkey. While in Istanbul, we were lucky enough to visit a traditional Turkish Bath House or Hammam and it was experience I will never forget! The history of bath houses are so rich and interesting (learn more here), and if you travel to Turkey it is a must.
The beginning of the treatment begins with elevating your body temperature through alternating the sauna and steam room a few times. The next “step” is a plunge in cold water-where every few minutes we could hear a splash followed by sounds of a screeching woman! The point of this process is to strengthen your immune system and invigorate your body. After the rather shocking plunge, I was lead to a warmed marble table while I rested and waited for my scrub master/masseuse to bring me to the next station I like to call the scrub down table. I had never been so vigorously cleaned (this was prior to my visit to the Olympic Spa in KoreaTown LA-more on this later) and although not a soothing body scrub as I was used to in the West, my skin felt amazingly smooth.
After the scrub I put on a robe and we drank tea. This was not optional. People do not rush out of the spa there as they do here, in fact, it is considered part of the treatment to continue to relax. Otherwise the point of the process would be lost. Although the experience on the whole was rather un “spa” like according to our standards, I rarely leave as relaxed and completely re-charged here as I did that day. In Turkey this is a ritual that is experienced by many of their people on a weekly basis, because they know it is a crucial restorative practice, and also because it is tradition. Also you can’t beat the price, cheap! Here is a link if happen to be in Turkey:
If not, don’t worry, this worldly art has become quite popular recently and there are many Hammams popping up. Expect less traditional and more expensive but usually an absolute treat.

Every time I travel to L.A. there is always one stop I have to make, Hairroin Salon in Hollywood. I go to visit my long time friend Irene who is a master stylist and to get my hair did. You will not find attitude or weird vibes in this salon. You WILL find mad talent, the best products and the look you have always wanted. Ask for Irene, you won’t be sorry. Check out their website below:
When I think of a “dewy” skin I think of a skin that is fresh, glowing and well hydrated. Who wouldn’t want that? It begins with a well moisturized skin and ends with a minimal make-up application.
I discovered Bobbi’s Extra SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm when shopping for my honeymoon. I wanted something with light coverage during the day that also had sun protection. Mission accomplished, my skin has never looked so good poolside.

I can not say enough about the Dolphin Bay Resort and the spa La Bonne Vie. We went for a weekend getaway, perfect for anyone in Southern California. The central coast is far enough that I felt I was away but I did not have to get on a plane. The first thing we did after check-in was go straight to the spa to book my appointments. It was small, had a shabby chic beachy feel and felt very inviting. I booked a facial the first morning and a massage the next. I promise you I would have made more appointments but my husband had that “really?” look on his face. I loved my Decleor facial, my esthetician was amazing and I tried hard not to fall asleep. My skin glowed the rest of the weekend.
One of the best perks about this spa is that they are always having specials on treatments and sometimes even products. Everything in the spa was 20% off that weekend and the prices are already so low for a resort property!
It was the perfect weekend really. I mean, waking up to a spa treatment, wine tasting in beautiful Edna Valley, eating gourmet food on a cliff over looking the coastline. La Bonne Vie? Yes it is.
Who doesn’t love those little miniture products?! They are great for travel and so darn cute. Here are a few of my favorite “minis” (all under 3 oz).
