I have tried many hair treatments in my life. It all started when I hit puberty and my hair became a little, let’s just say unruly. No one could figure out how to tame the beastly curls. One stylist thought a perm would have the opposite effect of curling the hair and straighten it. Nope. I spent years driving to downtown San Diego to a salon for African American hair. Once I had a treatment in Orange County that burnt my scalp, leaving blisters all over my head.
I have come a long way since those days, I have learned what works and know what doesn’t. I have had the Keratin treatment and really liked the results. The cool thing is you still get to keep your curls, it’s not damaging and it makes doing your hair (and life in general) a whole lot easier. It is great for people who just want to get the frizz out. Read more about the benefits here: http://www.keratincomplex.com/ (I like this brand because it is Formaldehyde free.)
If you are in Orange County, I see Madeleyn Marie at Parks Salon. Call for details and pricing: 949) 280-7137
If you know me at all, you know that I have been fighting with my curly hair all of my life and most of the time I lose. My friend Courtney told me to buy this product last year when I was taking pictures down by the water. I really liked the results when I tried it, you can see the information for yourself straight from her blog. Just click on the image below:
I get asked about organic and natural product lines all the time. I found a brand I really like that uses mostly organic and what you would call natural ingredients. 100% Pure is a face and body line using many plant based ingredients and does not contain parabens, sulfates, or fragrance.
So far I have tried a few of the body products and I will report back on the facial items after I try them out. The price point is also very good, one of the most expensive items costing around 35 bucks. You can find the products at Beauty 360 and also on the company website. Try the COCONUT NOURISHING BODY CREAM, super creamy and smells just like summer.
I am a huge fan of being tan and not so huge a fan of wrinkles and skin cancer. I have had to come up with ways to get a bronzy skin without spending hours under the sun and have tried a lot of the products on the market. I have to say there is quite a few I like-“fake tans” have really come a long way in the past five years.
I recently tried the Dr Denese tanning glove and I loved the result. The color was really pretty and natural looking, the glove made the application process easy because of its size as well. This one even has a peptide complex included. If you have someone handy to tan your back side it is most helpful. The only challenge is the product is colorless so you do not know where to fill in the spots-be careful here.
It helps to do the following first:
Fully exfoliate your body in the shower
Skip the body lotion before application
Let it fully dry before putting on tight clothing (only takes a few minutes)
You can purchase 12 gloves for $37.00 (regularly $42.00)
And now you can enjoy your healthy glow!
Just a quick tip for those of you who spend time in the sun. When you put on your favorite fragrance or perfume, place on an area of your body not exposed to the sun. Perfume can make your skin photosensitive causing red rashes and hyper-pigmentation. And of course don’t forget your sun protection!
I love the name of this product and the concept. There is a daily buildup in your hair from pollutants to hair styling products (especially if you are putting products in your hair such as hairspray, shine sprays and gels on a regular basis) . Once a week it is a great idea to use a clarifying shampoo to help deep cleanse and remove build-up. Also a great idea for those of us who do not wash their hair as frequently as they would like to admit. This is not for daily use, it would be too drying.
Well, if you’re a new mom like me, then the answer is most likely no. However, we are not the only ones lacking sleep. I hear it from so many of my friends and family too.
There are plenty of reasons to get good sleep, but not many realize these benefits also contribute to healthy skin. Ever heard the term beauty sleep? This is actually totally accurate; the body including the skin does its repairing at night during deep sleep or REM. At the REM stage, a hormone called the Human Growth Hormone is released which helps maintain and repair cellular tissue. Daily and long term damage is repaired, which is why we put potent regenerating ingredients in night creams.
Just from personal experience, when I do not sleep my wrinkles look a little bit more pronounced, my skin is puffier, and I just look a little…old! A lack of sleep can also hinder proper metabolic functioning (having trouble losing weight?) and quite frankly can accelerate the aging process. Yikes!
So try and make an effort to call it a night at a decent hour and get your zzz’s. It can make a world of difference not only on your skin but with your entire well being. Now get to bed!
I used to go to the nail salon much more often before the little cutie came along. I was looking for a nail shine buffer for my fingernails because I cannot paint my nails to save my life. I found Revlon Crazy Shine Nail Buffer and it works! I could not believe how shiny my fingernails looked, it was amazing. You can even shine polished nails. I love the shape too. You can pick it up at most drugstores and find it around $2.99.
In the spa industry one of the fundamental treatments is the bath. In fact SPA is centered around taking in the healing benefits of water. The history of bathing for medicinal purposes, social gathering and peace of mind has been around since the Greek and the Roman days. These days we take baths to cleanse but the benefits go far beyond rinsing the dirt off such as:
Soothing achy muscles
Clearing out congestion and relieving pressure from a cold
Detoxifying the body
Taking time for yourself
Of course you do not need to visit a spa to take in these tremendous benefits (although that would be lovely too). At home baths are wonderful -I love to add hydrating bath oils or bath salts, put on a facial mask and really benefit from some nice quiet time. Check out this past blog on at home facials, you can do this all in the bath:
If you are experiencing extremely dry hands, there is a great hand cream I love. My hands literally crack with dryness due to excessive washing combined with my dry skin. It feels like I am living in the Sahara Desert at times.
I love the Eucerin Intensive Hand Repair Cream, it is rich and super moisturizing. It even has AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) to help slough off the excess skin that builds up. I love the size of the tube as well because you can stick it in your purse or desk *or both-it is only around 5 bucks. It can be purchased at almost any drug store or market. Sweet relief… until the next time you wash your hands-Oy.
