My home was recently flooded with a mini river flowing through my living room and all. Needless to say, we had to leave. After finding mold in our downstairs bathroom, I knew this evacuation would be longer than a small travel size product could afford me. Having an 8 month old baby I had to pack for, this would be the first time in history I wasn’t the one with the most luggage. Just because my home was being gutted and I couldn’t sleep in my own bed didn’t mean I was about to ignore my daily skin care regimen! Although I did feel I should simplify.
With that said I knew the product I really could NOT live without was my KFI Multi-Vitamin SPF 30. This moisturizer is rich with antioxidants and vitamins and leaves my skin feeling nice and hydrated. A great bonus, it is also has an SPF of 30 so I didn’t need to pack my sun protection. What I love most about this product is the high level of antioxidants like Vitamin C and E, adding extra protection from the sun and free radical damage and algae and cucumber helping to keep inflammation at bay (read more about Antioxidant skin care here).
Although my house was in disarray, that didn’t mean my skin should be. Thank you Kerstin!
Recently I was asked to shed some light on incorporating antioxidant skin care products into a home care regimen. It’s a great question and and even better idea. Using antioxidant rich products *effective products* is important for helping to even out skin tone, minimizing pigmentation and prevention. To prevent further damage you also want to do the following:
Wear Sun Protection (religiously)
Use Antioxidants (and eat them!)
Get Facial Treatments
So back to the antioxidants, there are many used in the industry. Vitamin C is a standard and it’s very effective. One of my favorite products uses C but also some other potent ingredients that are super effective when combined.
Phloretin CF by SkinCeuticals is the product I would always recommend to my clients in search of a result driven product that offers prevention along with correction. It’s best used during the day time for extra protection against the sun and free radical damage.
Here are the benefits as listed on SkinCeuticals website:
- Prevents premature signs of aging and corrects existing photodamage
- Divides and conquers the range of reactive oxygen species (ROS) throughout the skin
- Prevents cell mutation by shielding skin’s DNA
- Accelerates cell turnover
- Boosts skin’s support structure
- Inhibits UV-induced discolorations
If you really want to see a difference in the hyperpigmentation, I love to couple with Phyto +. Here are the benefits as listed on SkinCeuticals website:
- Contains kojic acid and arbutin to help reduce hyperpigmentation
- Active ingredients work synergistically to lighten the appearance of skin
- Natural alternative to the chemical skin lightener hydroquinone—less likely to cause irritation
- Contains anti-inflammatory cucumber and anti-bacterial thyme to soothe and calm irritated skin
- Helps maintain results following invasive cosmetic procedures
- Ideal for all skin types
Hope that helps April, this ones for you. ♥
It may be surprising to some how common adult acne is. And if you have ever had problems with breaking out (even if it is just one pimple), you know how it can be completely stressful and upsetting. This is the first of more posts to come where I will be focusing on bringing product solutions and tips on how to handle the acne beast.
My first begins with a terrific cleanser, since that is usually where we start with any skin care regimen, the Clearing Skin Wash by Dermalogica.
* Key Ingredients listed from Dermalogica.Com:
* A synergistic anti-acne combination of Licorice, Milk Thistle, Lemon, Arnica, and Bergamont botanicals helps soothe while preventing future breakouts.
* Salicylic Acid stimulates natural exfoliation, helping to clear impacted follicles and minimize acne formation.
* Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Golden Seal and Matricaria help eliminate acne-causing bacteria.
This cleanser can be used sparingly as needed or more often depending on what your level of breakout is. Check out other mediBac Clearing Products as well for acne treatments that actually work.
Who doesn’t love those little miniture products?! They are great for travel and so darn cute. Here are a few of my favorite “minis” (all under 3 oz).
Ultra Calming Cleanser-Dermalogica
Great for calming irritated skin and hydrating (making it perfect for travel).
Perfect if you are traveling to a humid climate this summer, I use it everyday regardless of the weather.
Evian Facial Water Spray
Great to stay hydrated all day long, refreshing and great for airline travel.
Milagro Tequila Silver
How cute is this bottle, I’m just saying. May not be a beauty item but it is perfect for travel!
Now all you need is a great bag to put it all in:
Also great for travel:
Donna Karen Deodorant
Skin is not the only thing that we need to protect as we frolic in the ocean and pool during these hot months ahead. Our hair takes a beating in the summer with the salt, sun and pool water, which is why I love the Sun Essential Oil by Barex. Not only does it help repair sun damaged hair with vitamin E and Rice oils, it also helps protect it from all of the elements.
Multi-vitamins and UV filters help keep hair soft and shiny so you can avoid the dull and dry looking “summer hair” I personally can do without this season! I just spritz on my hair and I am ready to go. You can’t resist the smell, I like to pretend I am on holiday in Tahiti. Where will you be going?
If you have been wanting the Clarisonic brush but don’t want to shell out the 200 bucks, you can always opt for their less expensive Mia device (149.00). This brush is smaller but does the trick beautifully. Nordstorms has the exclusive prints and kits that I love (Zebra print? Yes!) and it comes with a trial size of their gentle cleanser that I happen to really enjoy.
Check out the latest Nordstroms catalog to view the variety of colors offered, just makes cleansing your face even more enjoyable.
Why cleanse your face?
Wedding season is here and the excitement is in the air! Here are three beauty items to keep in your wedding clutch (besides the obvious powder and lipstick) that I had with me on my special day.
A beautiful compact mirror: I loved reapplying my lip gloss because I could take out my super girly compact (and mine was my ‘something blue’). Try a sparkly mirror like this one at Nordstrom.
Deodorant: Not a glamorous item but when your feeling nervous, sweat is sure to follow. I had to re-apply just thinking about my walk down the aisle in 3 1/2 inch heels.
My obvious choice is Donna Karen Deodorant-see link.
Fragrance: I wore a scent that was nice and light but it also wore off on me. Try Vanille Givree des Antilles by La Maison de la Vanille. I get so many compliments on this one and it is the perfect go to fragrance for your tropical honeymoon!
I also kept a piece of advice I received right before the ceremony started in my mind. Enjoy every minute, don’t worry if something is not perfect and enjoy yourself.
Summer is officially here! This is a great time to take inventory of your sun protection and to stock up on your favorite SPF, preparing for those beach/park days ahead for you and your family. I recently tried the Supergoop! SPF for the first time and LOVE it. I bought the SPF 30 for face and body which is a lotion and they also have other options depending on which type of application you prefer (spray, wipes etc). The lotion rubbed in without the ‘attractive’ white streak, was very lightweight and does not sting the eyes, hallelujah!
Key Benefits as listed on the website:
- PA++ UVA/UVB protection
- Very Water Resistant (up to 80 minutes in water)
- Weightless, oil-free hydration
- Paraben-free. Fragrance Free. No Animal Testing.
- TSA Approved for carry-on air travel
I love what I have read about the brand Supergoop!, they take pride in the quality of their products by eliminating harmful ingredients. Looks like I might have found the perfect sunscreen for my little guy and I to share! I will be buying the 24 oz size next time for the Body, that comes with a pump so I can slather away.
Knowing what we now know about the dangers of UV damage it is crucial we protect the little ones (and ourselves of course) with safe and effective products! Time to goop it up.
Me and spray toners, we go hand and hand. I have a new favorite, the Molecular Mist by Sircuit Cosmeceuticals, just in time for summer.
This product is powerfully moisture-boosting, using a combination of deeply hydrating and soothing/calming ingredients. They do without the preservatives, colors and fragrance and we love that. Can also be used as a light-weight moisturizer.
Use it after cleansing but also on top of make-up is great too. Check out this past post where I mention other uses for misting toners/sprays:
You just can’t help saying “ahhhhh” after a couple sprays of Molecular Mist. Check out the website below to read more about the toner and the rest of the line. The list of celebs who enjoy Sircuit is certainly impressive (Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman and Oprah to name a few).
The neck and décolleté (chest area) are often ignored when it comes to an at-home regimen. In fact, I have seen certain spa/skin care facilities only treat the face as well. We expose our neck and décolleté to the same elements we expose our facial skin to so make sure and do the following:
Cleanse. If you have a Clarisonic brush I suggest adding time for your neck and chest. Check out the link below for Clarisonic info:
Exfoliate and Treat. Treat the skin on your neck and décolleté as you would your face. Pull down each product when you treat.
Sun Protection. Have you ever seen a two-tone face and neck? Yep I bet you have, don’t let this happen to you. Make sure you protect both equally.
